A short film showing a woman worker, Pani Ela, at her work in Gdansk Shipyard. The film shows the huge scale and sheer physicality of the work undertaken by women workers at the shipyard, and challenges the common assumption in Poland of a 'shipyard worker' as only being male (the Polish work for physical worker is gendered as male). The film is made by a woman filmaker , Ell Southern, based at the time in Gdansk Shipyard. This makes the film a unique portrait of one 'woman at work' as seen by another, and is an interesting confrontation of their own differing 'work' areas, methods and technologies. The film was made for Poland Indymedia, as part of 'Konfrontacje / Confrontations', a multimedia artists gathering autonomously organised at the shipyard in August 2004. This film accompanies the work by another of the participating artists Ewa Majewska who interviewed and photographed the women shipyard workers.
